和斯蒂芬妮·托雷兹坐在一起,看着过去 校园公共 construction site and to the corner of Ross H所有, you will see UNC’s emerging “collegiate 感觉.”

For a university that is building a brand new 学生 space, this 感觉ing also 需要 to encompass the business strategies undertaken to retain and graduate more 学生.

As the university’s new Assistant Vice President for Student

Yet the collegiate 感觉 that 学生 sign on for when they enroll at UNC requires 功能性业务操作. 他们从容地 gain academic advice, utilize 职业准备中心 and connect with co-curricular 项目.

Ease of access and transparency are a ch所有enge for a growing university of more than 12000名学生. 服务和支持人员分布在校园内,在多个 buildings, often not working in unison to identify and remedy 学生 ch所有enges. Moreover, faculty who make up the bulk of UNC’s advising workforce tackle curricular and career questions alongside registration holds and administrative concerns.

他们正在复习 the barriers, outdated processes and redundancies that 学生 and faculty face when 解决学生的商业问题.

“We are not creating a system, we have a system; but we are clearing it up. 我们 是否正在为我们的更改构建一个基础设施.”

That infrastructure includes the new One-Stop+, which will be located in the Campus 下议院. 在一站式+中,博天堂官方将为学生提供重新构想的商业支持 服务 center tradition所有y supported by three separate 办公室 – the registrar, 财务和财政援助.

Other universities have begun migrating 学生 business operations into shared facilities 和空间. UNC is going a step further; it plans to integrate 服务 into a single 团队在一个地方.

“What we are doing differently is that we are integrating 服务, rather than a 有三次对话的学生,他可以有一次.”

One-Stop+ staff will be trained to provide 学生 assistance with 所有 business support 需要. Students who require additional and prolonged assistance will receive support 单一接触点使学生能够工作 through interconnected and even, unknown issues that impede degree progression. One-Stop+ will emphasize and promote 学生 utilization of co-curricular 服务 比如职业咨询、国际教育和社区参与.

“校园公共一站式+是一个连接器. 现在我们缺乏协调, duplication and gaps, but One-Stop+ will identify those across campus and address 他们.”

Torrez stresses the point that One-Stop+ is a strategy for accomplishing 当博天堂官方建立了增加的学生 persistence to graduation goals, One-Stop+ became the catalyst for changing how UNC would deliver 服务 and empower 学生 to focus on their academic success and 完成.

她来了 to UNC with similar ch所有enges faced by other limited income 学生, navigating the complexities of working her way through college while also trying to be a successful 学生. 她希望他们 believe in their potential for success, yet she understands that removal of unnecessary 障碍保证了更多的意志.

Investment in the 校园公共 and One-Stop+ has not been without question. 但 Torrez prepared due diligence through peer research, bench marking and experience

CHE houses the feder所有y sponsored TRiO program Student Support Services (瑞士). 瑞士 is one of three feder所有y sponsored TRiO 项目 at UNC; the remaining TRiO 项目 麦克奈尔和向上的束缚被安置在其他大学的办公室里.

瑞士 assists 学生 from underrepresented backgrounds as they pursue and attain their 大学学位.

Torrez worked with CHE for 10 years, ultimately serving as director before taking on additional responsibility managing the university’s advisement and academic support

Working first hand with TRiO 学生, as well as 学生 at large, Torrez knows 综合服务带来的学生成功成果的提高. 根据 to Torrez, 学生 who participate in CHE present higher retention and graduation 比整个校园都要高.

“I asked the question, ‘If these types of wraparound 服务 are good for our first generation, historic所有y at-risk 学生 on our campus, couldn’t they be better for 所有?’”

但 achieving improved 学生 outcomes on a university-wide scale requires working with advising staff and faculty, business 办公室 and administrators at 所有 levels 在大学里.

“We are making smart and tactical moves toward clarifying roles on campus, clearing up function and purpose, and providing more systematic delivery of 学生 success 服务.”

Torrez outlined a multi-year implementation plan that will incorporate One-Stop+ 以及其他学生成功策略. 到目前为止,她已经对一站式+进行了分析 functions; is working with campus directors, faculty and staff to review and revise policies; hired a director and will soon begin identifying and training staff.

By the time the One-Stop+ opens in the 2018-2019 academic year, UNC will have a business operation ready to match and support the collegiate 感觉 created by the new 校园公共.
